Frequently Asked Questions

Can we bring our dogs to Thistledown Glamping & Cottages?
Yes you can! We welcome 2 well behaved dogs in our Shepherd Huts, and 1 small/medium dog in Bramble Cottage. We only state different numbers of dogs in each accommodation due to space & the accommodation layouts. We are very happy to consider more depending on the size of dogs if you contact us before you book.
If you are wanting to book one of our Shepherd Huts & have a large breed dog Finch has more space so would be the most appropriate hut to book. We request that all dogs are kept on a lead when outside of your garden area & that you clean up after them at all times. Dogs must not be left unattended at any time & they must be over 10 months old & fully house trained. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see our full Dog Friendly Policy. We do not accept any other pets in to our accommodation.
What do we need to bring?
We provide all bed linen & towels (unless specified otherwise) so no need to bring that. You may like to bring beach towels though for days out & flip flops & bathrobes for getting out of the hot tub. You will need to provide your own food & drink & don't forget toilet roll! In Finch and Wren we provide basic cooking utensils & pots, for the hob inside & a skillet for the fire pit. Wood is provided for the hot tubs. Log bundles are available to buy for your fire pit. Please see the 'Our Huts' page for more information on what you can find in the huts.
Bramble Cottage has a  fully equipped kitchen. The coffee machine takes the equivalent of Nespresso original pods.
If you are bringing dogs don't forget to bring their bed or throws to cover our furniture.
Are the Wood Fired Hot Tubs difficult to use?
No, they really aren't. They do require some work on your part to get them up to temperature but if you plan that around cooking your meal on the fire pit, or while enjoying a drink together you really won't notice that. Plus it's all part of the adventure! The tub will be freshly filled with cold water before your arrival, and the fire will be all ready for you to light when you are ready.  We provide clear instructions in the hut on how to get the best out of the hot tub & if you follow these you will have it ready to use within a couple of hours. The first heat up is always the longest, between 2-3 hours if you follow our instructions, but with the insulated lids the water will retain it's temperature pretty well, you may even find that it's still warm enough to get in the next morning without lighting the fire again. If you light the fire again on your second evening it will heat up much more quickly. Once you light the wood burner you must not leave it unattended. We re-stock the hot tub wood once a day & this is included in the price of your stay, unless stated otherwise. Only wood supplied by us may be used in the wood burner.
What if I need to change or cancel my booking?
In the first instance please get in touch to discuss your options. If you need to make changes to your booking we charge a £30 admin fee. If you need to cancel your stay with us your deposit is non-refundable. If you cancel within 21 days of arrival all money paid is non-refundable. We strongly recommend you take out appropriate travel insurance. (For Covid related changes see below)
Can I book the whole site for my family?
You can book all of our accommodation but each unit must be booked under the lead guest staying in that accommodation, who must be over 21. This person must take responsibility for all guests staying in that unit & is who our booking contract is with. Children, including babies or infants are not permitted to stay in Wren or Bramble Cottage. Maximum of 2 adults & 2 children (aged 4-16, no babies or infants) are welcome in Finch - ie 3 or 4 adults are not permitted to stay in Finch. Unfortunately our shepherd huts are not suitable for children under the age of 4 years. Children under the age of 12 years are not permitted to use the hot tub.
What is the security deposit?
We ask for a refundable security deposit to cover any damage that may be caused during your stay. It is very unlikely that we would ever collect this & certainly not for accidental breakage of a plate, glass etc. The £100 is pre-authorised on the day of your arrival on the card used to pay your balance. This money never actually leaves your account, your bank just 'holds' it in the unlikely event that we were to make a claim on it. The funds need to be available in your account for this, the money is automatically released 4 days after your departure. Please see our T&C's for full details.
Do the huts have heating?
Yes, they have electric heaters that are available to use during colder months. We control them externally by WiFi, they are set to a comfortable temperature but if it's too hot/too cold a quick message to us & it can be changed instantly.
Can I have a party or my stag/hen do at Thistledown Glamping & Cottages?
No, unfortunately we don't allow parties or hen/stag do's. Our aim is to promote a quiet, relaxing break where families & couples can enjoy nature & the peaceful environment here. We do not allow loud music to be played at any time. This does not mean you can not have fun! We just ask all guests to be respectful of other guests as well as ourselves. We do not accept all adult groups in Finch, no more than 2 adults & 2 children (aged 4-16years) are permitted to stay in this hut.
Can we bring a blow up bed or tent for ourselves or additional guests?
No. Our accommodation has a maximum number of guests allowed and beds are provided for each one.
How far are you from the beach?
We are just 20 minutes from New Quay & Aberaeron, plus a few other 'off the beaten track' beaches. Take a look at our 'Local Area' page to see more information.
Can we use public transport to get to you?
Our nearest train station is in Carmarthen, about 30 minutes away. Our location is fairly rural & to get the best out of your holiday in West Wales you really need your own transport to get around and explore.
Have you made any changes because of Covid-19?
Yes we have.
We have introduced our Covid Booking Guarantee. This includes the following -
- Low deposit of 25% when booking
- Late balance payment just 21 days before arrival.
- Flexibility to move your booking in the event of further Government national lockdowns with no admin fee charges.
- We also ask you to strip all beds & place your linen & towels into pillow cases on your day of departure. This is on the recommendation of PASC to help reduce the possible transmission of Covid.
We will adhere to Government guidelines/rules at all times & expect all guests to do the same. This could mean certain services are withdrawn with no notice if we are required too. We would aim to inform you of any changes as soon as we are able too. Guests should be aware that the guidelines/rules may be different here in Wales & these should be respected at all times.

Ultimately we want you to arrive at Thistledown Glamping & Cottages ready to escape from the realities of the world and to just relax. Everything that we have put in place will be done behind the scenes wherever possible. We have provided this information so you can be reassured that we are doing everything possible to ensure your accommodation complies with all the guidance we have been given so you can just focus on enjoying your holiday.
